Specification Manager

£50,000 – £70,000 + Benefits – Midlands

“We’re already best in class when it comes to the carbon emissions in our manufacturing processes, and we’ll be carbon neutral by 2028.”

With regulatory change and embodied carbon assessments coming in, energy store is in an enviable position to grow their market share.

As an experienced specification manager, you’ll understand the growth opportunity that energystore has as a manufacturer and installer of insulation in the UK & Ireland. You’ll be experienced in selling to housebuilders from spec, understand the challenges and opportunities in the marketplace and be ambitious when it comes to growth.

This role reports into the Managing Director and will manage the UK estimating team.

energystore has plans to release innovative new patented product options and this position will help support the new product launches.

I discussed this role with Connor McCandless, the Managing Director and here’s what he had to say:

“Can you describe what it’s like to work there?”

Connor: “Yes, we’re in growth mode so things are changing rapidly but we’re keen to keep the culture that we’ve developed since we established. It’s an open culture where we genuinely like working with every colleague, to mirror what Rory (FD) previously said, I could go for a coffee with anyone, and we’d have plenty to talk about”.

“Can you tell me a little about the Specification team at present?”

Connor: “To date, we have focussed our sales efforts in the GB housebuilding sector to winning work through our estimating team at tender stage. We have developed a successful specification function in our product sales to large construction projects and now want to establish a specification led approach to our housebuilding sales process.

Our specification process in the large project sector starts with analysing Glenigan data for potential target clients. Our outbound telemarketing agency then call and arrange CPDs / sales calls for our Spec team to deliver RIBA approved CPDs. After generating design interest, our technical team can produce specifications, u-values, psi-values and SAP calcs. Once designs are agreed, our in-house contracting division can supply pricing and install services.”

“What are the long-term prospects for this role?”

Connor: “We’re growing. Since 2017 we have 10X our turnover and we’re close to £30M. When a company is growing as quickly as we are, there are always opportunities for talented people to develop and progress. For the right person, this role could eventually

progress into Head of Housebuilding Specification or beyond.”

·        Share market intelligence with the commercial team and client base to bolster their businesses and consequently enhance our own.

·        Negotiate project terms alongside the Managing Director to optimise energystore’s sales and profit prospects.

What you need:
